The truth about being a Christian is…I still mess up, I’m not perfect, I’m still a sinner. Getting saved wasn’t a magical potion to make my life rainbows and puppies. It didn’t all of a sudden take away every problem I had. I’m still going to go through things in life that are difficult and still have to fight battles. But there is a difference. The difference is I’m not going through it alone. God is guiding me through it and I can trust him leading me. He promises to never leave me alone, even if it feels like I am. I am still going to face temptation, but I just have to practice discipline and take Gods way out. God always provide a way out! No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability , but with the temptation he will provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. The Godly may trip seven times, but they will get back up Proverbs 24:16
The truth about being a Christian is that God has my back. He is always there to pick me back up when I fall. He is always leading me back to him when I start straying away. I know I am not perfect and I don’t know everything, but that’s okay! I just have to keep lifting my head up, strive to have the mind of Christ, understand and find comfort/reassurance that God is on my team (if God is for us, who can ever be against us. Romans 8:31). His word says that all things will work together for my good (Romans 8:28). I will continue to grow as he teaches me.
Jesus died for us because we pretty much are clueless and don’t know what we are doing down here on this Earth (we are sinning). For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of Gods glorious standard Romans 3:23. But God showed his great love by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners Romans 5:8. He came to show us the right way and give us another chance to get it right before it’s too late. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 6:23.
When Jesus was down on this Earth He was tempted just like we get tempted. He just never gave into the temptation. He totally understands, he gets it. This is why he is the perfect one to help us through this life. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin Hebrews 4:15. Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested Hebrews 2:18.
The truth about being a Christian is you will never be perfect or know everything. If you were, then there would be no need for God, you would be God. He is not waiting for you to be perfect either, he knows you are broken and incapable of rescuing yourself. But guess what? God knows everything, you cannot hide things from him so just tell him! O Lord you have examined my heart and know everything about me Psalm 139:1. He loves your honesty and conversation. Confess it all to him, pour out your heart and mind. He will forgive you, that’s a promise. He is full of mercy and grace. However, this doesn’t give you the right to abuse the grace! Meaning, just because he will forgive you, it doesn’t mean you should go around sinning when you want with the mindset of “oh, it’s okay, God will forgive me.” God knows your heart and your intentions when you do something. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives Proverbs 16:2. You don’t have a license to sin just because God is good and forgives. If you do slip up and sin, REPENT! Meaning, turn away from that sin! Don’t go back to it or put yourself in a position to be tempted again. Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away Acts 3:19. He is your fresh start, no matter how many times you have to start over. People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy Proverbs 28:13.
If you want to be saved you can ask God “please forgive me for my sins, I believe in my heart that Jesus is your son and he died in my place for my sins and you brought him back to life.” The truth about being a Christian is if you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. However, it is crucial to know that praying this isn’t a formula to be a Christian. You also need to develop a genuine relationship with Christ. Read the bible to learn his ways so that you can live righteously and continuously turn away from sin. Make sure your faith is truly in Christ ALONE!
