focusing on the wrong thing

We’ve got so much going on in our everyday lives, good and bad. We work to pay bills, care for our kids and get stuck in our everyday routines. Whenever anything goes wrong, that seems to be all we could focus on. We whine and complain about everything, while letting things ruin our day. Not to mention getting offended easily. Without even realizing it, we are missing out on life’s everyday blessings. Could we be missing the “miracle” right in front of us by focusing on the wrong thing?

The very things we are not paying attention to are the very things God could be trying to use to help strengthen our faith and give us the encouragement to keep moving forward. Don’t miss out on the bigger picture because of your blindness. In John 5:3-10, Jesus heals a man who has been sick for 38 years! After being healed, the man followed Jesus’s instructions to get up, pick up his mat and walk. This happened on the Sabbath which was considered a holy day that no one was allowed to work on (Exodus 31:14-15). The Jewish leaders objected because the man was “working” by carrying his mat. Really! Are you kidding me?! A miracle just happened and all you can focus on is that he was “working” on a day he shouldn’t have been! They were totally focusing on the wrong thing! They had a similar reaction in John 9:6-14 when Jesus healed a blind man by making mud and spreading it on his eyes. Again, they were all worked up and offended because he made mud (which they considered work) on the Sabbath! Come on! They just kept missing out on the miracles because they were too busy focusing on the wrong thing.

How about you? What is right in your face that you are missing because your attention is somewhere unimportant? What has you distracted? Is it a person, job, social media, money, bills? It can be the littlest thing. For instance, I’m sure you noticed that I blurred part of the picture I have up for this post. Why? Well, because we tend to miss out on the message God has for us due to distractions. In this picture I am jumping for joy, I feel free and happy because I am in love with Jesus. Had I not blurred out part of the picture, how many would have missed the message by focusing on a bikini pic!?

I encourage you to reevaluate what has your attention! Let refocus our minds on what is good! Don’t keep missing out on the blessings happening right before your eyes.
