Healing from hurt can be difficult. Ever get a wound that was so bad and painful that you just didn’t want to mess with it? So instead you cover it up with a bandage so that you don’t have to deal with it or feel the pain. You just hoped that it would heal while it was covered up! Well, unfortunately, covering it up is a temporary fix that’s really not going to do much for the healing process. In fact, it might actually get worse and become infected! One day, that bandage is going to need to come off and the wound will be exposed again! And guess what? You’re going to have to deal with it!
We can use this same example when it comes to healing from the hurts, pains and our problems in life. Sometimes we think that covering up our brokeness is good enough and we will be fine. Wrong! The same way that wound can become infected and develop pus is the same way our lack of dealing with or healing from our hurt/problems can affect us. We’ve got to get to the root of the issue to heal. We’ve got to debride the wound. Use antibiotics (Jesus) to kill the infection and allow the wound to generate new tissue. The healing process might sting, hurt or be uncomfortable, but it is necessary for a complete recovery!
A huge part of Jesus’s ministry was healing! Jesus healed in a few different ways. He would lay hands, pray, and forgive sins. A person’s faith was also a major part of healing! A perfect example of this is the story of the woman who was hemorrhaging! The woman had so much faith that she thought to herself that if she could only touch Jesus’s robe, she will be healed. She had this bleeding disorder for twelve years and it had gotten worse despite seeing doctors. Jesus was her last hope. So, she did it, she reached and touched the hem of His robe and was immediately healed! (Mark 5:25-30). And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.” Mark 5:34.
I encourage you to not just cover up your wounds. Allow the ultimate physician to heal you! Pray about it, have faith, talk it out, and set boundaries. Let the lord shine His light on your hurt so that you can properly move forward and not have to keep living with an infection that could ultimately cripple you! Debride the wound, deal with the temporary discomfort so that you heal!
