During my daily reading, something interesting stood out to me. Demons would easily recognize and obey Jesus. Now I know you are probably like duh, we know this! But what really got me is how many “Christians” don’t even recognize and obey Jesus! How can we call ourselves believers when we can’t even recognize who the Lord is and obey his authority? How convicting!
Demons know Jesus and obey His authority when He speaks, but we as Christians have difficulty obeying when He speaks! Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, “why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are- the Holy one of God!” (Mark 1:23-24) “Why are you interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the most high God? In the name of God, I beg you, don’t torture me!” (Mark 5:7). Wow, even demons know who he is! They recognized and testified that he is the Holy one.
Now I don’t know about you guys, but quite frankly I am a bit embarrassed! How is a demon more obedient than a believer? We should have more respect for Jesus than the enemy and his little workers do. Obedience is to act accordingly to Gods word with submission, faith, trust and love for God. So, do we truly have faith? Do we truly trust and love Him? Do we truly respect Him? If so, why is it so difficult to recognize and obey Jesus? Are we really believers then? Let’s practice our obedience muscles.
